This is a picture of my friend, Melody, on the ni-Vanuatu Island of Ambae, back in 1997. She’s holding a fish she just spent all afternoon reeling in, using a length of nylon string, a hook, and an empty water bottle for a fishing rod, as she paddled along the offshore reef in her canoe.
